assume Bastard (this is the only reason words are ever underlined in these records) also due to mother listed with Reputed Father. Possible a Rogerson, I haven't found any other names ending in rson in this record set.

Apparently buried February 23 1800 - Otherwise this one might have been mine - per 1881 census, great x4-grandad James was born 1801 in Dumplington.

This seems like a good find as my James became a cow leech (animal doctor) which I assume is what Husbandman also means

Rogerson could be Jogerson but doesn't seem likely! Another Husbandman for the list.

With no father or other details specified, the implication is that this is the father and not the new child Ad[illegible]. So did dad's death send mum into labour? Or is this an inconsistent transcription & did the child die?

During 1805, the format of the register changes from the horrible (large old books - easy for viewing, hard to view on Microfilm) to single page volumes, one for each year. A resounding cheer went up from me.

February 1805 was not a good month for Rogerson babies. Presumably this is Hannah Daughter of Thomas Rogerson, died 25th February 1805.

1809's register has severe water damage, so much so that it is carded on the front of the volume. Many illegible records, I may even have missed some Rogersons.
From this year, events are numbered in the register eg birth no 27, death no 73 etc.

The / is where it is carried over to a new line (or rather to the end of the next line which is completed.). Don't know what the mah is for. Later, this register omits "his Wife" where the line is already full.

This volume a bit damaged; writing is very small (half the previous line spacing )

Mary Daughter of Robert Rogerson of Barton Weaver by Ellen his Wife

apparently died 22nd October 1812

"A man found frozen to death upon the high-road at Barton upon Irwell, and supposed to be of the name of Owen Hughes by a mark in his hat."

not a Rogerson but interesting enough to rate a mention

Hooray! We are into printed sheets! The Good side of this is that there is just one clearly marked column to scan for 'Rogerson'. Also you get slightly more details: age at death and witnesses to the marriage (inc whether the witnesses, bride &/or groom could write). The Bad side is that the little comments about Bastards and who their Reputed Fathers are no longer appear. Let's hope John Rogerson has finished sowing his wild oats.
