The local pub - now called the "Bowshaw Inn" !! - we had quite a nice meal here. It's part of the Innkeepers chain (which goes to back up my theory that the safest way to eat when you're out & about is to choose chains - the food may never be great, but it should avoid the palate-numbingly awful) Uncle Noel Rogerson (Sheila's dad; Melissa's dad's uncle) was given a tankard by the local pub when they sold Bowshaw House. Some years ago (not too many), he and Michael and Sheila were visiting the pub with friends. He had his tankard with him - with the promise of free ale any time he came back to the area. A couple of phone calls later, the old promise was honoured. (3 cheers for the management!) |

Claudia and Melissa at the Rogerson family grave. There is an ornate carved stone cross that belongs on the top of the marker but is in pieces behind it (you can just see the top of one I think). We looked for my grandfather's grave but couldn't find it - I seem to remember Aunty Mary saying he was buried in the churchyard which is down the road from the church, but we couldn't see one. |
